For a Chance to Scare Away the Winter Chill for a Local Family
At Vailes, serving the Augusta County community is at the heart of everything we do.
Each October, we hunt down the spookiest, scariest furnace lurking in homes across our community and replace it with comfort, safety, and peace of mind. Over the past several years, our Scary Furnace Giveaway has become a beloved tradition, providing vital home-heating support to a deserving household during the chill of winter.
Nominations are open! Tell us about a family member, friend, or neighbor haunted by unreliable heat—or even yourself—and enter to win a brand new Trane gas furnace and compatible thermostat.
Years of Making a Difference
The Scary Furnace Giveaway began in 2022 with a simple mission: bring warmth, safety, and peace of mind to a family or individual facing the long winter with a failing or unsafe heating system. Since then, the giveaway has become an annual highlight for our team and community.
Each year’s story reminds us that a warm home is more than just comfort—it’s safety, peaceful rest, and hope. As we continue this tradition, we’re proud to see the Scary Furnace Giveaway become a lasting way to give back and keep our community strong.
Meet Last Year’s Furnace Giveaway Winner
Jessica Bruce was living in her "forever home" when her 30-year-old furnace suddenly went out and would not fire up. One of our Vailes technicians inspected the furnace and told Jessica that replacing it was the best option. She began working extra hours at her job to save up for a new furnace, but her workplace could only offer her so many.
A single mom with two daughters, Jessica said her situation seemed dire—until Vailes stepped in.
Our team installed a reliable, safe, and efficient Trane gas furnace and new thermostat in Jessica's home, free of charge. Her story inspires us—and underlines why we keep giving back.
"I’m a single mom of two girls and work a full-time job," she said. "Things took a turn, and I was not prepared for this to take place. I cannot describe how grateful I am for Vailes and how nice they were. The whole time they were installing the furnace, they were thanking me and asking if there was anything else they could do."
